PAINT ME A PERFUME
In 2013, and then again in 2017, Frédéric Malle asked some of the world’s greatest perfumers to create perfumes that would occupy a very unique place in his collection. His idea was that, like painters, they would create portraits in perfume of the spirit and world view of great artists, and, in these cases, of two great fashion gurus: Dries Van Noten and Alber Elbaz.
Thus were born “Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle,” composed by Bruno Jovanovic, and “Superstitious, Alber Elbaz par Frédéric Malle,” composed by Dominique Ropion. Perfumes conceived of by the publisher and his perfumers as olfactive portraits of these two ”sitters”.
DRIES VAN NOTEN
An enveloping warmth.
First and foremost a creative response to designer Dries Van Noten’s Flemish roots. Belgium’s stark winter call for domestic warmth, while its history, as one of the great stages for the trade of precious raw materials, calls for a rich amalgam of textures and motifs: tea by the fire, speculoos biscuits and Indian spices inspired this comforting blend of milky sandalwood, vanilla, saffron, and sacrasol, for a lasting effect of exotic, buttery warmth.

SUPERSTITIOUS
The scent of a dress.
The illustrious fashion designer Alber Elbaz has met his match in the perfume world. A classic floral aldehydic architecture illustrates Elbaz’s free-flowing vision of an elaborate fabric in which everyone can find their own beauty: Turkish rose and Egyptian jasmine, enhanced by a touch of peach, rest on a bed of amber imbued with Indonesian patchouli and Haitian vetiver. A final touch of aldehydes sharpens the perfume’s opulence with an urban edge.
